Louis Vuitton Trophy, Sardinia – Vertical Seas by Fabrizio Plessi

Mari Verticali, an exhibition of the latest art installation by Fabrizio Plessi at the arsenal of La Maddalena in Sardinia, was inaugurated in June 2010. Twelve boats, twelve seas, twelve tales that are broken down into one opera.

The “vertical seas” are sculptures, each 8 meters tall, made of primary elements, immobile and on the run, in a stratification of space and place condensed in the relative dark of the exhibition’s large hall, which is suffused in an airy blue light recalling the sky and air.

Matthias Schnabel, video designer, created for Fabrizio Plessi twelve unique 4-meters-high videos of crushing waves like seen when looking down from a fast-moving sailing ship’s deck, fulfilling the artists idea of bringing together the colors and the personality of the oceans and adding to Plessi’s impressive installation an emotional expression for what the soul of the Vuitton Cup stands for.
